In 2014, a week after my son turned fourteen, he started working at a fast-food counter in Edmonton City Centre mall. At that time, the food court was located in the basement, and all the fast-food stalls formed a circle around the middle seating area. There were Filipino temporary foreign workers (TFWs) working in almost all of the stalls. I knew only one of them, but the Filipino workers in the food court all knew each other.
